Blue Butterfly was created because of an individuals passion for the art of design and printed stationary. The creative director, Gabi Colby finished design school and headed out into the corporate world, after designing her own wedding invitations she fell in love with the idea for being able to create beautiful designs for women who share the same love with her, but don't have the capabilities to accomplish it themselves. She also liked the idea of working for herself. (Who doesn't)

In 2006, she started the idea of Blue Butterfly and started creating a business plan with her mom, Barbara Redmon. The two studies other women businesses and stationary companies, to create the best products for their customers.
